Food fit for the future

Introducing our dining collaborator for the 2021 Lexus Melbourne Cup: Charlie Carrington.

The Owner and Head Chef of Atlas Dining was given the brief to develop an inventive and sustainable menu for the 2021 Cup Carnival, featuring sustainably-sourced ingredients and with a focus on local Victorian produce. Carrington’s conscious approach gives us a glimpse of how we might be eating in years to come - an approach that exemplifies the Lexus ‘Live Forward’ ethos.

An optimistic vision of the future, 'Live Forward' is a desire for better. For ourselves, the planet, and the ideas we choose to embrace.

Lit up LF-Z concept vehicle at Flemington Racecourse

Following the LF-30 Electrified concept vehicle shown at the 2020 Lexus Melbourne Cup, the LF-Z Electrified is emblematic of the Lexus brand transformation - incorporating driving performance, brave design and advanced technologies set to be realised by 2025. The futuristically designed Lexus LF-Z Electrified concept vehicle made its Australian debut alongside the first production Lexus battery electric vehicle (BEV), the UX 300e, at the 2021 Lexus Melbourne Cup.

Air freighted from Japan to Australia, the LF-Z Electrified concept vehicle represents the ultimate iteration of the Lexus Electrified vision and symbolises the Lexus 2021 Melbourne Cup Carnival theme: 'Live Forward'.

Producing 400kW of power and 700Nm of torque, the LF-Z Electrified can accelerate from standstill to 100km/h in 3.0 seconds, previewing DIRECT4 technology with high-torque electric motors fitted to each wheel for maximum performance versatility - and to fundamentally transform the pleasure of driving and owning a Lexus.

Each year, the Victoria Racing Club takes the Lexus Melbourne Cup to local and regional communities. Despite the challenges of 2021 and ever-changing restrictions, the Lexus Melbourne Cup visited destinations right across Australia to unite communities and raise funds for local causes.

Known fondly as the People’s Cup, what has now become the star of every Spring Racing season started as a symbol of exploration, discovery and advancement in Australia - a celebration of the gold rush era. First forged from locally-sourced Victorian gold, the craftspeople behind the Lexus Melbourne Cup have continued that tradition with the 18-carat gold icon being crafted from gold sourced at Kirkland Lake Gold in Fosterville, Victoria.
