WORLD DEBUT: NEW HEIGHTS FOR LEXUS RX

Lexus RX 350

Lexus has staged the global reveal of an updated RX luxury SUV that introduces significant enhancements to its dynamic appeal along with advances in connectivity, the addition of a touch-display screen and world-first safety technology.

The latest RX – available with five or seven seats – will arrive in Australia during the fourth quarter of 2019 with the first application of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in the Lexus range. Lexus engineers have focused on expanding driving pleasure with changes to the suspension and increased body rigidity, resulting in more agile handling. Redesigned shock absorbers are equipped with a new friction-control device that reduces high-frequency vibration caused by minute road-surface imperfections. Enhanced rigidity – with hollow stabiliser bars that are stiffer and thicker, extensive use of laser-screw welding and spot welding, and increased use of high-strength adhesive – has resulted in more immediate response to steering inputs.

The RX Line’s powerful and sporty appearance achieves even better flow and consistency with revised character lines that connect the newly sculpted front and rear bumpers.  Lexus is also offering newly designed 20 and 18-inch aluminium wheels and new colour options. Slender new headlamps, either side of a revised signature Lexus spindle grille, add sharpness to the front while the rear combination lamps feature a “L” motif.

In a world first, Lexus has advanced its pioneering LED automatic high-beam system (AHS) with blade-scan technology that enhances overall safety at night. A Lexus innovation precisely controls light distribution by adopting a fast-spinning blade mirror that transfers light to a lens to illuminate the road ahead. The new system synchronises the rotation of the blade mirror with switching the LED headlights off and on. As a result, RX drivers can view hard-to-see areas such as road shoulders and recognise pedestrians and road signs much earlier – without impeding the driver’s overall visibility and without dazzling drivers travelling in the opposite direction.

The latest Lexus Safety System + features advanced accident prevention and mitigation technologies, including newly adopted Lane Tracing Assist that makes it easer for the driver to stay in the desired lane and Road Sign Assist.

Updates to the highly functional interior include two seating positions for the third-row seats, adding an option for securing greater leg space when required. A new touch-display screen now joins the Lexus remote touch interface, enabling occupants to select the operation that best suits their preferences. The powertrain line-up is unchanged: a two-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, a 3.5-litre petrol V6 and a self-charging hybrid 3.5-litre V6.
